Grades K-5th

EXECUTIVE FUNCTION SKILLS-ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

The ages of 6 to 10 is a critical time for the development of Executive Function Skills. These skills include, self-regulation, attention, task initiation, organization, and planning. While some students will develop these skills easily, many will struggle. These students highly benefit from one on one instruction and support that is often not available in most traditional elementary schools.

This is generally the time when parents begin to notice that their child is starting to struggle. For some it may be as early as Kindergarten, for others it may not been seen until 4th or 5th grade. Students face new expectations for sitting still, listening, completing classwork/homework, and following classroom and school rules.

SIGNS OF EXECUTIVE FUNCTION DEFICIENCY IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

  • Behavior or emotional regulation struggles-the student has greater difficulty with self control than their peers, they can be impulsive, easily frustrated, anxious, or have difficulty settling and remaining focused.

  • Academic Challenges-the student may struggle with starting assignments, fully completing assignments (even small ones) and have trouble locating, turning in, and bringing home schoolwork.

  • Social Challenges-the student may have trouble participating in group activities, struggle making friends, or interacting appropriately with others.

DO YOU FIND YOURSELF ASKING:

  • Why does my child take so long to do homework?

  • How can I help my child settle down and get focused?

  • How can I reduce my child’s outbursts and frustration?

  • How can I help my child become better organized both at home and at school?

  • Why is my child unable to make and keep friends?

If you have asked yourself any of the above questions, Executive Function coaching may be a good fit for your child.
