EXECUTIVE FUNCTION COACHING

WHAT ARE EXECUTIVE FUNCTION SKILLS?
Executive Function Skills are skills that help us achieve our goals successfully. To do so we need to be able to manage our emotions, focus our attention, organize and plan our work and time, and reflect on those things we did well and those that we need to improve on. As the demands of school increase as children get older, having good Executive Function Skills is a necessity for success. Students and Adults who have been identified as neurodiverse or diagnosed with ADHD/ADD or other learning differences commonly struggle with Executive Function challenges, and are generally developmentally behind in these skill sets. However, it’s not just students who have a formal diagnosis who struggle in this area. Virtual schooling, and covid quarantines have set the majority of students back 1-2 years in Executive Function Skills development.
By the time students reach High School the expectation is set that they should already have developed the Executive Function skills needed to succeed. Sadly, these critical skills are not typically taught in elementary or even middle school.
With additional guidance and support, students (and adults) can learn the skills needed to effectively manage their lives, and become equipped to take on the multitude of challenges present in schooling and in life.
