5 Magic Words to Save Your Sanity

Kids with ADHD often have black and white thinking. They struggle with those grey areas and often get passionate about wanting an answer right now. As parents one of the most important things we can do is give ourselves and our kids the gift of time. Time allows us to thoughtfully consider our communication and also allows for any intense feelings to subside.

So how do we buy ourselves time? With these five words, "Let me think about it." This allows time for you to talk it over with your partner, come up with a good plan, and it also helps your child learn how to wait for gratification and an answer.

Depending on the child's age an answer should be given within 1-24 hours. Start with a smaller time period and then increase as your child learns to endure the waiting period.
